Machine Vision - Label Inspection

Using a PPT Vision system, Mercator Robotec implemented a high-speed label inspection system operating up to 300 parts/minute (ppm) for a company in the pharmaceutical industry.  The system had the ability to inspect a wide variety of labels.  A sample of a few of the labels is shown below.

The system inspected the item number, lot and expiry and tracked them accurately through the labeling process.  A user interface (shown below)  was created where part images could be viewed and system pass/fail conditions could be seen.  A buffer for failed part images was also created to allow the customer to inspect any parts that were rejected.

Below is a picture of one of the label inspection stations for this particular job.  As the parts revolve on the dial, the camera and flash are triggered automatically and the image is sent to the processing unit.
